Portuguese Chamber Annual Golf Day

The London based Portuguese Chamber of Commerce held its annual Algarve Golf Tournament and Dinner on 5^th July at the Alto Golf Club in Alvor, Portimao.

Twenty-eight golfers had signed up for the Tournament on the championship course - the last designed by Sir Henry Cotton, a three times Open Champion, and resident in the Algarve for over 25 years. Before teeing-off golfers were offered a light lunch sponsored by Francisco Brito who operates the banqueting at the Alto Golf & Country Club.

Following the Tournament, members and guests attended a Reception and Dinner in the luxurious clubhouse. The Espumante reception on the terrace with magnificent views over the course was sponsored by Atelier do Sul, long standing Chamber members with offices in Boliqueime who are well known throughout the Algarve for their design consultancy. The dinner was sponsored by Alto Golf Club, with wines sponsored by the well known estate agency Richard Neubersch, specialists in luxury villas.

During the evening, the special golf prizes donated by CIN Paints, were presented by John Newgas, the Chief Executive of the Portuguese Chamber.

Prizes were awarded as follows:
1^st Prize – “The CIN Trophy”: Paulo Narciso (Paseco)
2^nd: Peter Fisher (Blacktower Financial Management ) who also won Nearest the Pin
3^rd: Sergio Coelho (Paseco)
Ladies Prize: Kathryn Pope (Quinta da Boavista)
Longest Drive: Justin Ryan (Braganca Bruno) and Linda Kenny (Blacktower Financial Management)

Simon Perks, Deputy General Manager at Banco Santander Totta in London, and Chamber Algarve Director, welcomed the guests and gave an outline of coming events. He announced that the next event would be a dinner on November 8^th in central Algarve.

Alto Golf is in Alvor near Portimao. It has an 18 hole par 70 golf course designed by Sir Henry Cotton, a driving range, villas and apartments. Fifty three new apartments are being constructed overlooking the 3^rd and 5^th fairways of the golf course. The location is in walking distance of magnificent sandy beaches with dramatic cliffs. For further information or assistance please email sales@altofairways.com as the website is in the final stages of construction.
