Objective:              An introduction to what Portuguese construction companies need to consider in order to set up business in the UK and work as sub-contractors.

Background:          The seminar is in response to requests from Chamber members and Portuguese construction bosses who want to know more about the expanding British construction sector. They are aware that there is a growing skills shortage here, as the demand for housing grows, and prices rise.

The UK construction sector as a whole is responsible for 6% of British GBP.  It ended 2014 growing steadily, a pattern also echoed in the UK’s housing, commercial and civil engineering sectors.

According to the latest government figures, fewer than half the new homes needed each year in the UK to keep pace with demand were built in 2014.

Official figures from the Department for Communities and Local Government showed that 118,760 homes were completed during 2014, an increase of 8% on the previous year but far below the 250,000 most experts say are needed to begin to tackle the country’s housing crisis.

Event partners       The Chamber is working with UKTI and the London Chamber of Commerce, who have a dedicated Property and Construction Group.

Audience profile:    From Portugal, it will be decision makers at Portuguese construction companies, who are looking to set up in the UK as contractors or sub-contractors to British companies.

From the UK, several UK companies are keen to meet potential partners since they face a shortage of manpower and need to fill the gaps by contracting overseas workers and companies for specific roles and projects.

Language:             Due to many of the audience being Portuguese and not necessarily speaking fluent English, it is planned that some presentations may be made in Portuguese.

Costs:                   The seminar will cost £90 per person to attend, which includes welcome refreshments, a delegate pack and a buffet networking lunch.
